Ministries

Deacon Ministry
Dea. Rufus Lloyd, Chairman
(Acts 6:1-6)

Deacons serve the Lord by conducting the caring ministry of the church-doing the benevolence work, visiting the sick, being alert to the spiritual needs of the congregation-for the purposes of freeing the pastoral staff to focus on prayer and the ministry of the Word, promoting unity within the church, and facilitating the spread of the gospel.
Deaconess Ministry
Sis. Gloris Lloyd, Chairperson
(Titus 2:3-5; Rom. 16:1; Tim. 3:11)

Deaconesses were included in the official staff of the early Christian churches. Things we do are help with the poor, Be positive role models (in attitude in lifestyle), Lend emotional support, Counsel teenagers (issues such as teen pregnancy) when directed, Build relationships with new members, Assist with baptism candidates, call or visit healing corner members, Assist with Communion preparation. Moreover the ministry is to assist the Pastor & the church in every necessary way.
Trustee Ministry
Bro. Derrick Simpson, Chairman
Exodus 31:1-6

Though trustees are necessary for the effective and efficient operation of a local church body, it is not a biblical office. Trustees are a State mandate whose responsibility is to the physical property of the church.

Mission Ministry
Sis. Addie Newkirk, President
(Matt. 28:19-20)

To spearhead the church's carrying out the great commission that Christ left the body of Christ. This does not mean do it all, just spearhead. This ministry is totally focused on outreach as well as in reach. The task at hand is going outside the four walls to reach souls, loving those with-in the four walls of the church.
Music Ministry
Bro. Gary McCormick, Church Musician
(Psalm 150:6; John 4:24)

Worshiping the true and living God is essential for the body of Christ. Entering into the presence of God is an awesome and fearful undertaking and yet an eagerly anticipated pleasure. The choirs and musicians of First Baptist Church must take this charge seriously. It is important to elevate worship to a level that challenges the individual to go beyond self and the corporate body to bond together in oneness of the Spirit. This is the purpose of the choirs and the music of the church. It is not to entertain or to showcase talent. It is not even to usher in the Spirit (the Spirit is already abiding), yet to usher the people of God into the presence of the Spirit, so that we may worship in the liberty of the Holy Spirit.
Youth Ministry
Sis. Nakita Rhodie, Director
(Prov. 22:6 & 1Cor. 15:33)

Simply put, Youth Ministry is the Church's efforts to help each & every young person grow personally & spiritually. Youth ministry is more than programs and events. Every effort by the Christian community is to reach out to the youth with the love of God as revealed to us in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. The Youth Ministry is a church-wide ministry which strives to provide a variety of opportunities and experiences to draw young people into active, responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the faith community and the greater church. It's designed to help spiritually train and equip teens in a fun and Godly atmosphere to the Glory of God. Youth Ministry works to foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person and seeks to draw young people into responsible participation in the work of what God would have them to do. The Youth ministry is to reach out to young people, to embrace their gifts and to walk with them in their process of walking into their destiny. Youth Ministry seeks to help youth share their gifts, grow in life skills, develop a positive self-image, overcome prejudices, develop respect for differences, serve those in need, foster social change, develop a personal prayer life, apply Christian faith to daily life, serve the Lord with all their heart and develop a personal relationship with Jesus.
Usher Ministry
Sis. Betty Newkirk, President
(Psalm 84:10)

The ministry to which a person is called when he or she becomes a church usher can best be described in the following ways:

Greet worshipers, making every attempt to help them feel welcome and at ease. Escort members and guests to their seats. Distribute materials related to the service/meeting such as bulletins, hymnals, handouts, etc. Receive certain offerings, delivering them promptly to the treasury department of the church. Maintain alertness for any emergency that may arise, relieving the need or contacting the person(s) needed to provide the proper assistance. Direct individuals out of the service/meeting in an orderly fashion (in most instances row by row), leaving the auditorium or room ready for the next service or meeting.
Culinary

The culinary ministry serves the many ministries of the church as needed and or requested. The members of the culinary ministry who serve faithfully are dedicated to performing catering and other culinary duties in a spirit of excellence.
